“Our LORD, it seems that you have just begun to show me your great power. No other god in the sky or on earth is able to do the mighty things that you do.” Deut. 3:24 (CEV)
One of my kids used to pretend that he was a superhero. His power was to be able to climb any wall and he would actually shimmy himself up and down the walls in our hallway! Superheroes have a specific power they are known for and they use that power to defeat evil villains. Many homes, hallways, rooms and backyards have been filled with the sounds of kids pretending to posses a supernatural ability. Great power demonstrated in the ability to go higher, faster and further.
There is nothing like a dark sky to show us great power! When I gaze into the vastness of a night sky I am immediately reminded of the greatness of God. Astronomers are daily learning of the grandness and mystery of the universe that seems to go on forever. Probes try to reach the outer edge only to learn that the outer edge reveals thousands of other galaxies. We try to discover the secrets beyond the darkness and we are left with more questions than answers. It goes on forever in majestic splendor that is beyond our comprehension and explanation.
All of this was brought into being in an instant, “In the beginning God created.” God displayed His power that knows no comparison, even within all the creative minds of our day and the incredible advances with technology. The wonder of the universe is slowly being revealed and in the end we remain speechless with thoughts beyond our comprehension. In all of this, have you ever stopped to realize that God is trying to show his great power to you?

“This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.” Genesis 6:9
This morning we are thinking about faithfulness. Our world and society have an unusual view of what it means to be faithful. A Hallmark card fits the mood of our time by saying, “I can’t promise you forever, but I can promise you today.” That’s about as deep a commitment as some are willing to make. The commitment is temporary and dependant on the mood of the moment.
Contrast that attitude with the attitude that God exhibits toward us. God is our very best example of faithfulness. He will never break his promises towards you.
- Psalm 100:5 – “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
- Psalm 89:1,2,8 – “I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself. O Lord God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.”
It is possible for each of us to know this faithful nature of God. We don’t have to live outside of this generous gift. Noah knew this and so he was able to walk faithfully with God. Today, when we read the Bible, we have countless examples of people who were faithful to God and knew His faithful nature.
Be encouraged to be a faithful person today and even if you are faithless, God will remain faithful!
